Critical Care and Palliative Medicine Physician, advocate, living with stage 4 cancer

Maura J. Lipp, MD

Hi friends! A little about me, I am a Pulmonary/Critical Care specialist as well as a specialist in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. I graduated from Medical School in 2002 and have been working as a full-time intensivist for the last 14 years. I’m also the Medical Director for a home-based community Palliative Care program. A program I’m very proud of as we were one of the first in the country. Being one of the trailblazers was equally as difficult as it was exciting. I am exceptionally grateful for such programs as I am now also a patient of one. I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial cancer 11/2021. The silver lining of my cancer diagnosis is that I now am afforded more time to explore another passion, writing.

Throughout my career I’ve also been able to participate in medical mission trips to both Belize as well as South Africa. Additionally, I enjoy doing advocacy work and have had opportunities to do so both here locally as well as in Washington, DC.

When I’m not working, along with my husband of 15 years, I enjoy traveling and particularly spending time in the ocean. We’ve become quite the shark enthusiasts. The rest of our time we spend with two, very spoiled chihuahuas.

I’ve started this blog along with a few of my exceptional friends, using our combined knowledge and experience to help shine a light on the human side of medicine.
